Programs for ages 5-11 and 12 & beyond

Information about our 2024 programs will be posted in April. Please check back in the spring. In the meantime, the following is a description of our 2023 program.

Create Together! (2023)

Ages 5-11, 9 am to noon daily

This morning program will consist of 1.5 hours of dance and 1.5 hours of theatre, with both components incorporating fun skill-building exercises and games. Acro-dance training teaches flexibility, balance, strength, discipline, and concentration thru safe and progressive training. The dance program will also expose students to ballet, hip hop and contemporary dance. The theatre games will be taught by Lisa Dery with visiting actors dropping in. This exciting week of creativity culminates in a presentation on Friday that integrates both theatrical elements and dance in a presentation to the community. Tuition: $120 + registration fee of $30. Limited bursaries are available. Please inquire when registering 

Connect and Celebrate! (2023)

Ages 12 and beyond, 1:30 – 3:30 pm daily

This exciting afternoon program of dance instruction will have students working with Slava, assisted by Paloma and Camille. They will build at least 2 dances with this age group and include various elements of different styles, including hip hop, acro-dance and contemporary.  The dance classes are open-level and suitable for students with a background in dance as well as those who are new to this art form. Slava is a master of meeting dancers where they are at and will add layers as the week progresses. If you are feeling shy but curious, come! Move and grow your confidence through dance and the connection to music. A final performance presentation to family and community will take place on Friday. Tuition: $120 + registration fee of $30. Dance with Slava Doval

Slava Doval is the Artistic Director and founder of DanceFusion, a Nelson-based dance school with eight teachers and over two hundred and fifty students. She is a passionate performer; teacher and choreographer who infuses her globally-minded movements with grace and presence while exploring the common thread in dances from around the world. Inspired globally, created locally. She is an adventurous lifelong dancer who continues to study and perform dance internationally and locally. Doval is enthusiastic about sharing these learning experiences with her local students.

Theatre Games with Lisa Dery

Lisa has an incredible breadth of skills and teaching experience in the performing arts. She has studied and taught dance, yoga, singing and acting from New York to the Lower Mainland, and performed professionally in numerous disciplines. For the past decade she has worked as a performing arts instructor at places like the Richmond Performing Arts Centre and Vancouver Performers Mastery Program.
Her special passion is in guiding people of all ages on the use of voice and movement to build creativity, confidence and tools of healthy self-expression. Lisa now lives in Nakusp. She has led successful workshops with elementary students in both Nakusp and New Denver including several Valhalla Fine Arts programs.
