Jim Dugan,
Artistic Director
James Dugan came to the University of Calgary Drama Department as Head in 1983. He received his Ph.D. at the University of Toronto, taught at the University of Ottawa,
and spent several years as a free-lance actor. Jim has many acting credits in stage, film and television, and is currently the Treasurer of the Calgary Branch of the
Association of Canadian Film, Television and Radio Actors.
Mat Maitlandt, Theatre Instructor
Actor, director, clown, and improviser, Mat Maitlandt can be found all over
the world creating theatre. Mat holds BFA at University of Calgary and has
been working professionally in Theatre for Young Audiences for 8 years.
From 2005-2010, he was the Artistic Director with Calgary Young People's
Theatre
. He currently hold the position of Artistic Associate with
ComedySportz Berlin, in Berlin Germany. He has performed across Canada, in
Germany and Noway.
He is a founding member of Kids Play Klassics and
contributor to the Calgary Improv Festival and International Children's
Festival
. He loves teaching children, specifically those who live in the
beautiful Slocan Valley. He can't wait to come back for the sixth year to
this super fun camp
Julie Mortensen, Theatre Instructor
Julie Mortensen is an actor, clown, educator, theatre producer, and yogi. A graduate of the University of Calgary with a BFA in Drama and BCOMM in Marketing, she has also recently completed a degree at Queen’s in their Artist in the Community Education program. As an artist Julie has collaborated on numerous professional and independent theatre productions for children and adults, including many through Kids Play Klassics, a company she co-founded that has performed for the past six years at the Calgary International Children’s Festival. As an educator Julie works with Quest Theatre, and Calgary Young People’s Theatre, but nothing compares to the weeks she has spent teaching in the Kootenay mountains for ViSTA. She is so grateful to return to this remarkable community and the highly talented and creative youth that call it home.
Jessica Robertshaw, Theatre Instructor
Jessica graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of
Fine Arts in 2009. Previous stage credits include The Marriage of Figaro,
Lux in Tenebris, Oedipus Tyrannos, Antigone, Potentilla, Hamlet and
Radioheaded 2 (University of Calgary). Other select credits include The
Year of Falling Down (Ignite Festival and Theatre Bombus), Happily Ever
Once Upon (BraggArts Theatre), Higher than Truth and Shape of a Girl (Verb
Theatre). She is also active in theatre for Young Audiences and was a
member of the performing children's theatre ensemble Wagon Stage (2009).
Jessica is currently an Artistic Associate with Verb Theatre but her
favorite job of all time has been as an instructor with Calgary Young
People's Theatre since 2007.
