![]() | The SVI philosophy on ensembles is that the repertoire should be easy for students to learn and play so that the Institute experience can focus on the refinement of "playing together" skills like blend, balance, cohesiveness, watching and responding to visual signals, and communication of musical details like dynamics and phrasing. In assigning students to appropriate orchestras, ensembles and reading classes, it is necessary to juggle many factors -- the student's age, confidence, experience, playing level, sight-reading skill and the size and balance of the classes. The examples provided here will hopefully enable the gauging of sight-reading skills with some measure of objectivity. Please click to view and print the appropriate page for your child's instrument. Your teacher would be very helpful in administering the examples. | ![]() | |||
