Things to Do While You're Here

There are plenty of other things to do and see during your visit, so plan some extra time in the area. You could climb Idaho Peak to see the million-dollar view and the alpine wildflowers which are at their peak in early August, visit the historic mining ghost town of Sandon and its museum, swim in the clean glacier-fed lake, hike the Galena Trail along the bed of the historic K&S Railway, visit the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre and its lovely Japanese garden, tour the Museum in New Denver, enjoy the outdoor mining exhibit in Silverton, take in the Friday open-air market, paddle the lake, spend some quiet time drinking in the ambience of the Kohan Reflection Garden, have a soak in one of the region's hotsprings, lie in the sun, fish for lake trout, go mountain biking, visit a gallery or two, shop for locally-created arts & crafts, drive to Kootenay Lake to take the magnificent free Osprey car ferry to Gray Creek to watch artisans at work in their studios making brooms, rugs, pottery, wrought iron and glass bottles, catch a ride across Slocan Lake in the water taxi and hike amongst the old growth forest in Valhalla Provincial Park, or hang out with the locals at one of the lovely main street cafés. Make a vacation of your visit!
