Paule Barsalou (Guelph, ON), Violin: Paule holds a B.A. in Music Performance from Laval University (P.Q.) and an M.A. in Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy from the Cleveland Institute of Music (OH). Since 1989 she has been teaching at the Suzuki String School of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario and is now the artistic director of the school. She is also a registered Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She lives in Guelph with her husband, pianist Ken Gee.
Rick Dorfer (White Rock, BC), Violin: Violinist Rick Dorfer currently resides in White Rock, where he is quickly establishing himself as a performer, adjudicator, and pedagogue. In addition to maintaining a vibrant teaching studio in White Rock and Langley, Rick is an active freelance musician and primarily performs with the Vancouver Opera Orchestra. Rick also conducts the Surrey Junior Strings Orchestra and has adjudicated several regional festivals. Most recently, Rick established the Music, Meadows, and Mountains Retreat, a summer strings program located on beautiful Orcas Island, Washington. Rick's post-graduate training included an artist diploma from the Glenn Gould School and culminated in a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Washington. In addition, Rick has completed extensive Suzuki teacher training at several summer institutes throughout North America.
David Evenchick (Guelph, ON), Cello: David has been a member of the music faculty of Grinnell College, and headed the cello program at the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City for ten years. David is in demand across North American as a clinician and is a registered cello Teacher Trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas. David was a recipient fo the Anne T. Clearly Fellowship for International Doctoral Researach. Presently David is a faculty member of the Suzuki String School of Guelph and is principal cellist of the Guelph Symphony Orchestra.
Cyrena Huang (Vancouver, BC), Cello, Chamber Music: Cyrena began cello lessons as a Suzuki student in Guelph Ontario. She completed her Master's in Cello Performance at UBC where she worked for two years as a teaching assistant and chamber music coach for Collegium Musicum, and early music course. A versatile musician and dancer, Cyrena has training and experience in baroque music, modern cello, jazz and flamenco music and dance. Cyrena has been studying Suzuki cello pedagogy throughout North America since 1991. She currently teaches cello in Vancouver, continuing to perform widely.
Cherie Larson (Edmonton, AB), Violin, Viola: Cherie has been teaching with the Suzuki method for over 25 years. She was fortunate to be with Dr. Suzuki and watch him work and teach in Japan, in Edmonton and in the US. Cherie began piano at age four and violin at seven, and in her teens added both the viola and the organ. Currently she is the Music Director of the Edmonton Society for Talent Education, teaches at the Suzuki Charter School, holds a music director and organist position at a church, accompanies recitals and concerts, is actively playing all four instruments and has a studeio of 25+ violin and viola students.
Mark Luchkow (Vancouver, BC), Violin, Viola, Chamber Music: Mark began studying the violin at the age of three, later changing his focus to viola and taking chamber music at Alberta College. In 1993 he moved to Vancouver to study viola with Gerald Stanick. He received his Bachelor of Muisc degree at UBC. He is active in the Vancouver music scene, playing in orchestras such as the North Shore's Sinfonia and the Vancouver Symphony, as well as the Twelfth Night Trio. He currently teaches viola at the Vancouver Academy of Music, and viola at Capilano University's Community Music School.
Theresa Plotnick (Calgary, AB), Violin, Viola: A native of Dayton Ohio, Theresa Plotnick holds a music degree from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Since coming to Calgary she has performed frequently as a freelance violist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and many other ensembles, and is a founding member of the Allegra String Quartet. After serving on the faculty of the Suzuki Talent Education Society in Calgary for 17 years, she now teaches a private studio of violin and viola students and is a co-founder of the Amici Strings Program of Calgary.
Robert Richardson Jr. (Brandon, MB), Orchestra, Violin: Robert teaches and conducts at Suzuki Workshops, Institutes and music festivals across North America on a regular basis. While maintaining an extensive violin/viola studio in the Suzuki Talent Education Program in Brandon, he also conducts string orchestras and coaches chamber music. Recently, he began Suzuki violin instruction in a community outreach program at the New Era School. These classes are translated into nine different languages for the 36 students who have English as their second language. Robert performs regularly on both violin and viola with various chamber ensembles including the Brandon Chamber Players of which he is a founding member. For the past 10 years Robert has co-directed the Brandon Suzuki Summer Institute.
Darren Salyn (Edmonton, AB), Percussion: Darren is a freelance musician and teacher in Edmonton, where he has played as an extra with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra since 1992. He has performed as a chamber musician in numerous festivals and ensembles and for CBC radio. Darren received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Alberta in percussion performance. Previously he taught percussion courses at three junior colleges in Alberta and worked with a summer music band program for kids called "MusiCamrose" for approximately 10 years. In 1999 Darren founded a children's music program called Big Drum which continues to operate successfully offering programs to school-aged children.
