… on a long tradition of popular Valhalla Fine Arts summer vocal enrichment activities, Vox Valhalla steps up in 2018 as a full program held concurrently with VSSM. Vox Valhalla is suitable for singers wishing to refine their vocal technique on solo repertoire and for choral singers wanting to do some focused work on vocal development.


      … of singing with like-minded enthusiastic adult singers under the direction of our excellent faculty are certain to inspire you. Mornings are primarily focused on individual singing, with afternoons devoted to choral experience. Participants are welcome to register for either the full Vox Valhalla program or just the afternoon choral component.

Kelly Coubrough

Voice teacher

Soprano Kelly Coubrough has experience in many genres of music including opera, new music, and musical theatre. She holds an HBMus in vocal performance from Wilfrid Laurier University (2002). Since then, she has performed professionally across Canada with a variety of companies including Tapestry New Opera Works (Toronto, ON), Queen of Puddings Music Theatre (Toronto, ON), Vancouver Opera Company Chorus (Vancouver, BC) and Opera Nuova (Edmonton, AB) and is a member of the Canadian Actors Equity Association (CAEA). In addition to professional singing engagements, Kelly enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience through teaching private singing lessons, masterclasses, choral conducting, and vocal workshops. She now resides in New Denver, BC where she has been volunteering her time and talent in the Kindergarten/Grade 1 music class. She is also the director of the elementary school choir at Lucerne Elementary Secondary School and the teen singing group at The Outlet Youth Centre in New Denver.

Melissa Braun


Melissa is an experienced performer and teacher who is active in the Vancouver and Squamish musical communities. She has a passion for music education in all capacities and has acted as private voice & piano teacher, musical theatre director, choir director, and public school music teacher. She is the owner and principal of Squamish Academy of Music, where she also teaches voice, piano, music theory, and theatre. Melissa’s voice and piano students have received top marks and awards in provincial and local festivals and have been successfully accepted to a wide range of post-secondary music studies including classical voice, jazz voice, and musical theatre programs. Melissa holds an Honours Bachelor of Music in voice studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Toronto. Melissa has been the acting Artistic Director of Broadway or Bust Performing Arts since 2007. Melissa draws on her classical foundation to help students apply solid technique to a range of musical genres. She loves collaborating with students to create expressive, engaging musical performances.

Vox Valhalla (full-day) program: $220
Half-day choral program only (afternoons): $125

    M, W, F: Private lessons and/or repertoire coaching, 45 minutes between 9:15 and 11:30 (at least one per student during the week)

    T, Th: Master Class with all students, 9:30 to 11:30

  • P.M.

    M, T, W, Th: Choir rehearsal between 2:00 and 5:00pm daily with breaks as appropriate

    F: Afternoon performance

A note about age:

The type of vocal training offered in the full Vox Valhalla program is best suited to fully mature voices (i.e. senior high school or college-aged teens and adults). Younger teens who are interested in working in a mature environment are welcome to register for the choral afternoon component.
